New Americans are underrepresented in 46 of the 50 state legislatures.
Nine states still do not have a single New American state legislator.
New Americans are 26% of the U.S. population but hold only 3.5% of state legislative seats.
Black New Americans account for only 0.5% of all U.S. state legislators.
Only 12 states have Middle Eastern/North African New American state legislators.
Women are nearly 51% of the population, but hold just 26.9% of Congressional seats (2021 figures) and just 29.3% of state legislative seats.
