We receive lots of questions about our Ready to Win training. In this series, we enlist recent alumni to tell you about the Ready to Win experience in their own words. Here’s what Iván Hernández, an alumni of our Ready to Lead training in Washington this year, had to say.

Why did you choose to attend Ready to Win?
After Ready to Lead, I was confident in myself as a candidate. However, I still had many questions about how to run a campaign and had heard great things about Ready to Win. Even then, it exceeded my expectations!

What was your favorite part of the training?
The people. From the other participants, to the trainers, to the panel members, to the staff, etc. Everyone is extremely inspiring. I know I have a great network of people I can count on.

What was your biggest takeaway from the Ready to Win training ?
The biggest takeaway is how many people with immigrant backgrounds across the country are working to create a better nation for all. The movement is real!

What inspired you to run for office?
My community. I’ve seen how we’ve been left out of decision making and how we’ve been forgotten, but I’ve also seen how resilient, innovative, and resourceful we are. We need to be in these positions of influence.

What position would you like to run for and what would you like to achieve should you win?
Should I win, I want to be a true representative of my community. I want their ideas, values, and challenges reflected in my leadership. I also want to build a pipeline for other people with similar backgrounds to be in these positions. To make the change we need, we need to make politics more accessible to more people.
