Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board Member
Growing up undocumented, Ylenia wanted to be a voice for other families who shared the same story. In 2016, she participated on our Arizona Ready to Lead training, which was transformational in the way she viewed herself. Alongside other first- and second- generation immigrants, Ylenia learned to embrace her immigrant story and use her experiences as a tool to connect with others.
Currently, Ylenia serves on the elected Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board and is a Trustee on the Vitalyst Health Foundation Board. Her interests span water, clean air, education, and technology issues. In 2016, Ylenia made history as both the first Latina elected to her local school board, serving for 7 years, and the first Latina elected county-wide to the Central Arizona Project (CAP) Board.
Ylenia graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Latin American Studies. She is a mother of two boys, one in college and one in high school. Today, she continues to empower underserved communities through policy change and expanding access to opportunity.
