Participating in our democracy also goes beyond a vote. Sometimes, it also looks like fighting for who gets the right to vote.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, or the SAVE America Act, is a bill that would create new barriers to eligible voters by requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register or update registration, barring access to online and mail-in voter registration, and showing a government-issued photo ID before voting (including mail ballots).
This anti-voter bill would be particularly harmful to naturalized immigrants. Including requiring states to share voter registration information with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the bill would become just another tool of voter suppression.
