Following President Trump’s unveiling of his new immigration plan earlier today, Sayu Bhojwani, president and founder of New American Leaders, issued the following statement:
“This is what you get when an immigration plan is created by Stephen Miller, Jared Kushner, and other members of Trump’s administration who are known bigots with ties to right wing extremists. Instead of offering proposals that could fix our broken immigration system, these plans will only reinforce the discriminatory, hurtful policies this administration has proudly supported since coming into office.
“Our country deserves better than this. Instead of tearing families apart, building a useless border wall and stoking fear and hate against immigrant communities, the President and all elected leaders should be honoring our nation’s long history of accepting New Americans by providing a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented people and recognizing the immense benefits all immigrants bring to our communities.
“Today’s announcement confirms once again that true leadership is absent in the White House. We need people in office who recognize that immigrants from all countries, religions, and educational backgrounds enrich our nation, not the xenophobic extremists currently in office. That’s why New American Leaders is proud to lead its growing network of over 800 diverse alumni across the United States as they organize, run for office, and encourage other immigrants and people of color to engage in the democratic process. We stand committed to working with them in 2019, 2020 and beyond as they fight to create changes that respect the dignity and rights of every person, reform our immigration system, and strengthen our democracy.”
