Talk about #squadgoals. Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are teaming up on the Fair Chance at Housing Act of 2019, a bill that would ban “one-strike” policies that lead to evictions after a single criminal incident and replace it with a review system. The bill would also ban “no-fault” policies that evict entire families when there’s been an offense committed by a guest of the household and other key reforms. It’s yet another reminder that when #PeopleLikeUs are in Congress, we get more done and sponsor bills that benefit all Americans.

The Trump administration’s war on immigration continues unabated. Under a new policy implemented by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli, a known bigot and immigration hardliner, immigrants will only have one calendar day to present their asylum cases, down from 48 hours. The move will prevent many asylum seekers from accessing an attorney or taking advantage of their rights under the law to obtain evidence. Once again, this administration is turning a blind eye to those fleeing violence and suffering in their home countries.

Just like the United States Women’s National Soccer Team, too many women across the country face lower salaries and fewer opportunities for professional growth. The Senate has a chance to change that by passing legislation that will bring us closer to eliminating the wage gap and ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work. But we can’t make this happen without your support. Sign our petition today to tell Senate Leader McConnell to support people of color and women–#PeopleLikeUs–by bringing the Paycheck Fairness Act to a vote!

We were in Philadelphia this week taking in the sites, eating all the cheesesteaks (Pat’s or Geno’s?), celebrating the sheroes saving our democracy, and hosting a panel discussion at Netroots Nation with badass, hijabi wearing women changing the status quo and fighting for their communities. Catch the highlights here.
