NEW YORK Earlier today, Trump announced that he has expanded his xenophobic immigration restrictions to include individuals from Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar (Burma), Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania.

In response to the news, New American Leaders and New American Leaders Action Fund Founder and President Sayu Bhojwani released the following statement:

“Trump’s expansion of this discriminatory restriction is just another example of his xenophobic policy agenda. While he claims to try to ‘make America great,’ the New American Majority knows what he really wants is to ‘make America hate.’

“No matter what he claims, we know that this policy is driven by hate, not some attempt to improve national security. Especially as we approach the first caucus of the 2020 election, Trump is making a last-ditch effort to stoke fear and appeal to his white nationalist base, but our communities see his real motives. New Americans, people of color, Indigenous Americans, and allies have united around the belief that our communities deserve better than Trump and his openly racist, hateful policies. We refuse to fall prey to this kind of divisiveness and will use our growing political power to usher in a new era of leadership; one where all people are welcomed, included and represented.”
