NEW YORK— New American Leaders Founder and CEO Sayu Bhojwani released the following statement on Congress’ decision to leave immigrants out of the COVID-19 relief package that was passed today:
“We’re disappointed and outraged that Congress refused to stand up for immigrants, who are disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus. COVID-19 doesn’t see race, ethnicity, gender or borders but unfortunately, Congress does. The $2 trillion COVID-19 relief bill includes nothing for undocumented immigrants and very little for DACA recipients and other immigrants. This while immigrants are many of the essential workers—healthcare workers, supermarket employees, public transportation employees, childcare specialists, and building cleaners—working to fight COVID-19. It’s unacceptable that even in the time of a global pandemic, we cannot stand united on behalf of all Americans,” Sayu Bhojwani, founder and president of NAL.
