The New American Leaders Project strongly condemns the bigotry and xenophobia expressed against Jerry Shi and Falguni Patel, who are running to give their communities a voice. Nearly half the population of Edison, NJ is Asian American. The town leadership should represent its rich diversity.
An inclusive democracy is one in which everyone can participate. We urge immediate investigation into this act of hate and look forward to the day when candidates like Jerry and Falguni are not marginalized as āotherā but seen as what they are – Americans.
