Our recent Elected Site Visit to New York City was a resounding success!

We had the privilege of visiting historic sites like Ellis Island and connecting with the dedicated team at New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE). Hearing firsthand accounts from those supporting the newest arrivals to New York City was a powerful reminder of the importance of our collective advocacy for immigrant rights and inclusion.

Our discussions were further enriched by a stellar lineup of speakers and experts. Professor Samuel Finesurrey from CUNY and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander provided deep insights into the history of immigration and the economic forces influencing public policy today. Our own National Director of Leadership Programs, Basi Alonso, and 2018 New American Hero Awards honoree, Helen Gym, added their invaluable perspectives on advocacy and lived experience.

Alumni New York City Councilmember Alexa Avilés (Ready to Win® 2019), New York Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz (Ready to Lead® 2018), NICE’s Deputy Director Hildalyn Colon Hernandez (Ready to Win® 2019), and Diana Sanchez from the National Day Laborer Organizing Network also highlighted the critical connection between organized labor and the economic and political empowerment of New Americans, and how elected officials can be accomplices in delivering wins for all working people regardless of their status.

The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to positive change were truly inspiring. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our attendees, speakers, and guests for making this weekend so impactful.
